STEUBENVILLE, Oh:Â The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team's five game win streak came to a close after falling to Franciscan 64-60 on Wednesday evening.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 9-4 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and 13-7 on the season while the Barons improve to 5-8 in conference play and 7-12 overall.
Pitt-Greensburg opened the game on a four minute, 9-2 run to establish the early lead. They'd hold onto an advantage for nearly the entire half until the final 31 seconds when a Franciscan three-pointer would close the first half scoring and pull things even at 24-24. There wasn't much separation on the stat sheet with UPG shooting 36% and pulling down 16 boards to Franciscan's 37% and 14 rebounds.Â
Much like the first, the Bobcats would start the second outscoring the Barons 9-2. Pitt-Greensburg would stretch the lead to 13 points after a
Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) and-one moved the score to 47-34 with 11:55 left. FUS would dig into the deficit and eventually take the lead with 2:29 remaining in the game. The teams would trade the lead three more times over the next 41 seconds before Franciscan would snatch it for good. The Barons would take care of business from the free throw line down the stretch to hand the Bobcats the 64-60 defeat.Â
They'd outshoot (43%) the Barons (40%) and outrebound them 36-29 but turnovers would ultimately seal Pitt-Greensburg's fate after committing 18 which the home team converted to 17 points.Â
Biddle's 13 points and a
Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds would lead the Bobcats on the night.
Pitt-Greensburg will look to avenge this evening's loss with a trip to Medaille College on Saturday February 7
th for a 2:00pm tip in the AMCC's Game of the Week. The Bobcats defeated the Mavericks 77-72 in an overtime thriller when the teams met earlier this season.
