ALLIANCE, OH: Three runs by the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team would bring things even in the top of the eighth inning, but a three run bottom by the Raiders would lead to a tough 6-3 loss for the Bobcats.
With the loss, Pitt-Greensburg evens their record at 5-5 on the season, while the University of Mount Union improves to 8-3.
A single run by Mount Union in the first inning would be all that separated the teams over the game's first six and a half innings.
Two more Raider runs in the top of the seventh would extend the advantage to 3-0 before the Bobcat bats would come to life in the eighth.
Back to back singles by
Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) and
Tyler Lilja (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) kicked off the inning. Followed by an
Anthony Maroadi (North Huntingdon, PA, Norwin) one run double that plated Bozzuto and got the scoring started. A
Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) groundout would bring Lilja home for the second run of the inning with the third coming compliments of a
Greg Lynn (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) RBI single that scored Maroadi. The Bobcats had now pulled even at 3-3 with just an inning and a half to play.
Unfortunately, Mount Union would add three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth and hold the Bobcats scoreless in the ninth to keep the 6-3 victory in Alliance.
Cory Deighan (Bethel Park, PA, Seton-La Salle) was solid in the start, giving UPG six innings on the mound and allowing just one run on seven hits before making way for the Bobcat bullpen.
Adam Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park) (0-1) picked up the loss after allowing 1 hit and a pair of runs in .2 innings of work before being replaced by
Tyler Potutschnig (Flinton, PA, Glendale) who took to the rubber with a 3-3 score, two outs, and runners at first and third.
