Bobcats drop doubleheader at Case Western

CLEVELAND, OH:  The Bobcat baseball team dropped both games in a non-conference Friday doubleheader at Case Western Reserve University.  Game one would get away from them by a 12-0 score while the nightcap would need a walk-off from the Spartans to hand UPG a 4-3 defeat.

The two losses drop Pitt-Greensburg to 10-9-1 on the year as Case Western improves to 13-9.

Game 1
The Spartans would post 12 runs on 10 hits while Pitt-Greensburg scattered seven hits in the opening game loss.

Cody Menges (Belle Vernon, PA, Belle Vernon) (0-1) would pick up the loss after a tough outing where he allowed six runs in 1.1 innings of work.  Adam Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park) would go the next 2.2 innings allowing four runs, followed by 3 innings of scoreless relief from Cohl Gibbs (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown) and Eddie Schuessler (Pittsburgh, PA, Carrick).  Chad Jacob (Bridgeville, PA, Chartiers Valley) took the mound in the eighth inning to give up two runs while recording an out before making way for Mike Parlak (Connellsville, PA, Connellsville) to collect the final two outs.

The Pitt-Greensburg offense was led by Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield), who finished the opener going 3-4.

Game 2
The Bobcats would quickly shake off the effects of the game one loss and promptly take a 2-0 lead in the nightcap.   Four straight hits capped by an Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) two run single to centerfield would score Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) and Jacob to give UPG the early advantage.

The Spartans would answer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to knot things up at 2-2.

The Bobcats would answer in the top of the fifth on a Mike Maleski (Pittsburgh, PA, Plum) sacrifice fly that brought Matt Germanoski (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) in from third base to regain the lead at 3-2.

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the ninth inning when Case Western would deliver a walk-off triple to hand Pitt-Greensburg the 4-3 defeat.

Pitt-Greensburg would tally seven hits from seven different players with Bozzuto picking up a team-high two RBI.

Brandon Hoener (Pittsburgh, PA, Plum) (0-1) was the story in game two.  Despite earning the loss, the freshman pitcher would go all 8.2 innings allowing just six hits and three earned runs to a solid Spartan lineup.

Pitt-Greensburg will have the day off tomorrow before returning to play on Sunday, April 12th with an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader against D'Youville College.  Sunday's game will be played on the campus of Seton Hill University with first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm.
