GREENSBURG, PA: The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team dropped a Monday nonconference contest to Waynesburg University by a 10-3 score.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 23-16-1 on the season while Waynesburg improves to 20-16-1.
Monday's matchup would get underway with two scoreless innings of baseball. Waynesburg would be first to score with a single run in the top of the third. Pitt-Greensburg answered in the bottom of the fourth, plating a pair of runs to take a 2-1 advantage thanks to a two-RBI double off the outfield fence by
John Buerkle (Jacksonville, FL, Fletcher).
A big sixth inning by the visitors would follow with Waynesburg bringing in five runs to move ahead 6-2.
The Bobcats would get one back in the bottom of the sixth when
Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston) was brought in from second by a Buerkle one-run single to right field. After six UPG would now trail 6-3.
Waynesburg would add to their lead in the eighth, adding four more runs to extend their advantage to 10-3.
A scoreless eighth and ninth inning by the Bobcats would follow, bringing the game to an end by that same 10-3 score.
Pitt-Greensburg would pick up nine hits in the loss with Buerkle and Pounds leading the way with 2-3 performances. Buerkle also added a team-high three RBI while Pounds scored a team-high two runs.
Seven Bobcats made appearances on the bump, with
Brandon Hoener (Pittsburgh, PA, Plum) earning the loss. He'd enter for
Billy Elliott (Ligonier, PA, Ligonier Valley) in the third inning and throw effectively for two innings before running into a jam in sixth.
Pitt-Greensburg is right back to action tomorrow with another nonconference matchup with. #2 nationally ranked Frostburg State travels to Greensburg for a single game starting at 4:00pm.
