GREENSBURG, PA: The women's volleyball team took on Washington and Jefferson College in their home opener Thursday evening, losing in a four-set battle, 3-1.
The Bobcats fell to 0-8 on the season while the Presidents improved to 5-6.
Pitt-Greensburg lost the first two sets with scores 25-18 and 25-13. The Bobcats started the comeback in the third set winning 25-16, but that would be as far as they would get, losing the fourth set and the match with a score of 25-18.
Even though the Bobcats fell short, they put up great numbers on both offense and defense. The offense provided by Pitt-Greensburg was led by freshman
Megan Kirkpatrick (Connellsville, PA, Connellsville), junior
Renee' Ault (Oakmont, PA, Riverview), junior
Paige Misawic (Levittown, PA, Pennsbury), and freshman
Marla Shaffer (Allentown, PA, Whitehall).
Kirkpatrick led the team in kills, collecting 11, while Ault finished just behind her with 9 kills. Misawic tallied 27 assists to lead the team, and Shaffer added some instant offense with two service aces. The Bobcats defense was led by junior
Lauren Tassone (Venetia, PA, Peters Township), junior
Julie Barron (Somerset, PA, Somerset), and Ault. Ault led the team with 20 digs, while both Tassone and Barron led the team with 3 blocks each.
Pitt-Greensburg will be looking to turn things around when they begin conference play this Saturday, facing off against Penn State Behrend and Pitt Bradford. Both games will be hosted at Bradford, with games starting at 1 and 3:30pm.
