Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bobcat offense too much for Redhawks

GREENSBURG, Pa:  The high powered offense was in full effect for the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team Wednesday night, cruising to a 98-81 victory over the visiting La Roche Redhawks.

The Bobcats now sit at 6-1 in the AMCC, tied for the top spot in the league. The Redhawks are in 4th place in the AMCC at 4-3.

UPG came out on fire, building a quick 10-1 lead just over 90 seconds into the game.  They led by as many as 17 in the first half after shooting 58% from the floor and took at 50-34 lead into halftime.

Things picked up right where they left off in the second half, with the Bobcats stretching the lead to as many as 23. However the Redhawks would find life, and cut it as close as 6 points midway through the second half.

UPG kept their composure and steadily kept a double-digit lead down the stretch, allowing the Redhawks to get only as close as 9 points in the game's final 4 minutes.
For the game, the Bobcats shot a staggering 37 of 59 (63%) from the floor and dominated the paint where they scored 58 of their 98 points.

The Redhawks could find no match for UPG senior forward Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown), who had a career-high 24 points on 8 of 13 shooting, to go along with his game high 13 rebounds.

Senior Rocco Contristano (Pittsburgh, PA, Keystone Oaks) also played a strong game, adding 21 points and 9 rebounds to his season totals while Mike Connelly (Butler, PA, St. Joseph) finished the night with 22 points coming off the bench.

Classmate Jerell Figueroa (Dover, PA, Dover Area) dished out 7 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds while also adding 17 points in the win.

This was the 5th time this season the Bobcats scored over 90 points in a game and they average 82.1 on the season, 2nd best mark in the AMCC just behind Saturday's opponent, Hilbert College (86).

Pitt-Greensburg will look to affirm themselves at the top of the AMCC leaderboard and standings this Saturday when the visiting Hawks enter Chambers Hall in a showdown of two teams with identical 6-1 records in the league.

Tip-off for Sunday's contest is set for 1pm.
