GREENSBURG, Pa: In a matchup between two of the top teams in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball suffered just their second conference loss of the season Saturday, falling at home to Hilbert College 101-87.
UPG now sits at 6-2 in the AMCC and 9-6 overall while the Hawks improve to a league best 7-1 mark and 13-2 overall.
The visiting Hawks came out on fire Saturday, shooting 56% from the floor in the first half, building up a 56-39 halftime lead.
The Bobcats trailed by as many 22 points but came roaring back midway through the second half and cut the deficit to just 10 points. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, they were unable to get any closer, as the Hawks kept the pressure on and maintained a double-digit lead down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Bobcats were cold from three point range on Saturday, converting just 4 of 23 attempts.
UPG was led by senior
Jerell Figueroa (Dover, PA, Dover Area) who had a game-high 26 points, playing all 40 minutes. Senior
Rocco Contristano (Pittsburgh, PA, Keystone Oaks) added 19 points and 8 rebounds in 37 minutes while
Mike Connelly (Butler, PA, St. Joseph) and
Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown) added 16 points and 13 points, respectively, playing in 36 minutes apiece.
After sophomore
Matt Darby (Cranberry Twp, PA, Seneca Valley) got in 2
nd half foul trouble, senior
Nick Anderson (Brockport, PA, Brockway) came off the bench to give the Bobcats 18 quality minutes, including 7 points and 2 steals.
UPG will have a quick turnaround as they host AMCC foe Mount Aloysius this Monday on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan 18). Tip-off for Monday is set for 6pm.
