GREENSBURG, Pa: Four Bobcats scored in double-digits, including
Rocco Contristano (Pittsburgh, PA, Keystone Oaks) with a game high 25 points as the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team held off a feisty Mount Aloysius squad, 84-80.
The victory pushes the Bobcats to 7-2 in the AMCC at the halfway point of the season (10-6 overall) while the Mounties fall back to 2-7 in the league and 5-11 overall.
UPG shot over 55% from the floor in the first half, including 7 of 13 from three point range, helping build a 45-35 halftime lead. The Mounties were held to just 31% from the floor in the first half, and trailed by as many as 14 points.
The Bobcats stretch the lead in the second half to as much as 22 points, but the Mounties refused to go quietly as they chipped away at the lead, and with under a minute to play, closed the gap to 80-78 with 33 seconds remaining. However seniors
Rocco Contristano and
Jerell Figueroa made sure the comeback got no further, as they each knocked down a pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds, sealing the victory.
Contristano finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds, while Figueroa added 13 points and 3 assists. With his 3 assists, Jerell becomes the All-Time career leader in Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball history with 296, passing former Bobcat David Winfrey.
Also contributing in the win was senior
Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown) who posted another double-double, with 10 points and 12 rebounds, as well as
Mike Connelly (Butler, PA, St. Joseph) who had 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Sophomore
