STEUBENVILLE, OH: The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team improved to 4-0 in the AMCC as they picked up a 92-73 road victory over Franciscan University Wednesday evening.
Pitt-Greensburg remains tied for the top spot in the AMCC and is now 7-4 overall on the season.
On Wednesday, the Bobcats opened the game on a 14-2 run and never looked back. UPG shot 20 of 38 (53%) from the floor in the first half and held a 48-37 advantage at the break.
In the second half, the Bobcats continued their strong shooting night building up a 25 point lead and never trailing in the game. In fact, Franciscan would never get closer than 9 points in the second half.
UPG finished the night 39-76 from the floor (51%) including 10 of 20 from three point range. Leading the way was senior
Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown) who posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Sixth man
Mike Connelly (Butler, PA, St. Joseph) came off the bench to post 17 points and 4 rebounds, while teammate
Jerell Figueroa (Dover, PA, Dover Area) put up 16 points and 5 assists. Fellow senior
Rocco Contristano (Pittsburgh, PA, Keystone Oaks) rounded out the double-digit scorers for UPG, chipping in 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting.
UPG will face a tough road test this weekend with back to back games against conference foes Medaille College and Penn St. Behrend. Both games are set for a 1pm tip-off.
