Volleyball Splits Non-Conference Games With Hollins And Shenandoah Saturday

CRESSON- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team split two non-conference matches Saturday, dropping a five-set match against Hollins University and defeating Shenandoah in four sets.

In the first of two matches on the day, the Bobcats won the opening two sets against Hollins, 25-10 and 25-17. Up against the ropes, Hollins outlasted Pitt-Greensburg in the third set, 25-27 and forced a fifth and final set with a 25-22 win in set four. The final set was back and forth, but ultimately it was the Bobcats that prevailed 15-13 to come out victorious.

To close out the afternoon, Pitt-Greensburg faced Shenandoah for the second time this season. The two sides faced each other in the Catholic University Tournament in Washington, D.C. on September 10. Shenandoah defeated the Bobcats in straight-sets in the first match earlier this season, and were victorious against Pitt-Greensburg, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets stormed out and captured the opening two sets 25-18 and 25-18. Pitt-Greensburg dominated the third set, 25-13, but Shenandoah closed out the match, taking the fourth set 25-17.

Renee' Ault led the way with 19 kills for the Bobcats, while four other players for Pitt-Greensburg totaled double-figure kills in the two matches. Amanda Ross had 14, Autumn Karlheim totaled 13, and Paige Burk and Lauren Tassone had 11 and 10 respectively.

Defensively, Pitt-Greensburg was led by Erica Bosh who notched 38 digs and Kassi Niver chipped in with 20. Ross proved to be a force on the defensive end and a pest for the opponents to try and mount an attack, as she totaled 12 blocks in the two matches, three solo blocks and nine blocking assists.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Tuesday, when it hosts La Roche for its final regulalr-season home match of the season. Tuesday's match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
