Volleyball Takes Down Franciscan In Straight-Sets; Clinches Playoff Berth For First Time Since 2010



STEUBENVILLE, Ohio-The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team defeated Franciscan 3-0 and  in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup on Wednesday night.

Pitt-Greensburg also clinched a berth in next week's AMCC tournament for the first time since 2010. Wednesday's match was the final regular-season road match of the year for Pitt-Greensburg and Saturday the Bobcats will host Pitt-Bradford in the regular-season finale at 1:00 p.m.

With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 8-19 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Franciscan falls to 6-20 and 4-4 in the AMCC.

Pitt-Greensburg won the match with scores of 25-14, 25-23, and 25-17. The Bocats were very efficient on the evening totaling 36 kills with just 13 errors for a .235 hitting percentage and made things tough for the Barons, as they had 29 kills, 26 errors for just a .027 hitting percentage.

The Bobcats saved the best for last as in the third and final set, Pitt-Greensburg totaled a match-high 13 kills while commiting just two errors for an impressive .393 hitting percentage.

Lauren Tassone and Renee' Ault each had double-figure kills with 13 and 11 respectively, while Emma Dongilli and Paige Misawic each had 16 assists to lead the way for Pitt-Greensburg.

Dongilli and Marla Shaffer each had impressive evenings serving the volley as they each had two aces.

Defensively, Pitt-Greensburg was a force and made it difficult for the Barons to mount an attack as the Bobcats had 10 blocks, led by Tassone who had three block assists and Ross and Misawic who each had two.

Pitt-Greensburg hosts Pitt-Bradford for the regular-season finale Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
