Men’s Basketball Falls In Season Opener At Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON - The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team dropped its season opener 89-62 at Westminster on Friday evening in the Buzz Ridl Classic.

Westminster played a very efficient game on the offensive end shooting 48.6% (36-of-74) from the floor, including hitting 9-of-23 from behind the three-point arc and the Titans held
Pitt-Greensburg to 22-of-59 (37.35) and just 5-of-20 from distance.

The Titans were able to force the Bobcats to turn the ball over throughout the 40 minutes as Westminster forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 29 points compared to just 10 points off turnovers by Pitt-Greensburg.

Kyle Bondi paced the Bobcats with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the court and also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Jarret Vrabel led the Titans with 12. Cameron Kane-Johnson came off the bench and scored in double-figures with 10 and Westminster got great production from its bench totaling 41 points, while Pitt-Greensburg had 22.

Westminster jumped out to a quick 7-0 advantage over the first three minutes of the opening half, but Pitt-Greensburg answered and cut the defecit to one (10-9) on a layup by Bondi with 13:52 left in the opening half.

The Titans held onto the lead for the remainder of the half and took its largest lead of the half 49-28 with 40 seconds left on Preston Stitt's layup.

Pitt-Greensburg would get to within 11 points in the second half, but Westminster shot 50% from the floor and would go on for the 89-62 victory.

The Bobcats return to the court tomorrow (Nov. 18) when it faces Thiel at 2:00 p.m.
