Geneva Slides Past Men’s Basketball Tuesday Night

GREESNBURG- Geneva College (2-2) used a spirited second half to defeat the Pit-Greensburg men's basketball team (0-3) 91-63 in its home opener on Tuesday evening in Chambers Hall.

The Golden Tornadoes led 38-33 at the halftime intermission but ran away with the victory in the second half, outscoring Pitt-Greensburg 53-30, including holding a 29-12 advantage on the glass as well as a 12-1 margin on the offensive boards.

Ethan Moose came off the bench for the Golden Tornadoes and scored a game-high 16 points and Jimmy Leichliter added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Kyle Bondi paced the Pitt-Greensburg offense with 15 points, while Jay Grubb and Joe Mancini also had double-figure scoring outputs with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Geneva played aggressive defense and managed to force 21 Bobcat turnovers and the Tornadoes converted the turnovers in 28 points compared to just 13 points off turnovers for the Bobcats.

Both teams had efficient nights shooting the basketball as Geneva knocked down 34-of-73 for a 46.6% clip and Pitt-Greensburg wasn't far behind hitting 26-of-58 for 44.8%.

Midway through the first half, Joey Jou's layup gave Geneva a 15-6 lead, but the Bobcats fought back with a 19-7 run to take a 25-24 lead with 5:50 left in the first half.
Geneva responded with baskets by Tyler Crenshaw and Leichliter to regain the lead and went into the halftime break leading 38-33.

The Bobcats came out of the half with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 40 on a layup by Bondi, but Geneva went on a 14-0 run and would never look back.

Geneva outscored Pitt-Greensburg 53-30 in the second 20 minutes of action and went on for the 91-63 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court next Wednesday (Nov. 30) when it takes to the road for its AMCC opener at Penn State-Altoona. Tip-off against the Lions is schedule for 8:00 p.m.
