Men’s Basketball Drops High Scoring Battle At Penn State Altoona Wednesday Night

ALTOONA- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (0-4, 0-1 AMCC) lost 101-86 to Penn State Altoona (2-3, 1-0 AMCC) in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener Wednesday night in the Adler Gymnasium.

Pitt-Greensburg had three players score in double-figures on the evening led by Joe Mancini who totaled 24 points, including knocking down 5-of-12 from behind the three-point arc, and grabbed a season-high eight boards.

The Bobcats had their best offensive output this season with 86 points and also set single-game highs in field goals made (33), three pointers (11), rebounds (52), assists (19), and steals (12), but despite one of the best performances of the season, the main difference in the contest was Penn State Altoona was able to force 30 turnovers and convert the opportunities into 39 points off turnovers.

Matt Zanella and Kyle Bondi were also in double-figures for the Bobcats with 16 and 12 points respectively, while Javon Wilson led the Lions with a game-high 34 points, including knocking down six shots from behind the three-point arc.

Midway through the first half a three-pointer by Bondi gave the Bobcats a 21-20 advantage, but after Cody Spaid tied the game at 30 on a layup with just over five minutes left in the half, Penn State Altoona outscored Pitt-Greensburg 16-12 over the remainder of the half and led 46-42 at the halftime break.

The Lions scored the first points of the second half on a free-throw by Wilson and extended their lead to seven on Ishimeal Nance's layup at the 19:07 mark of the second half.

Blake Shields would get the Bobcats within five as he hit a layup with 18:40 to go in regulation, but Penn State Altoona led for the remainder of the game and would go on for the 101-86 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns home for its next game Saturday, when it hosts Mt. Aloysius for tis AMCC Home Opener at 4:00 p.m.
