Zanella’s Career-High Not Enough As Men’s Basketball Falls At D’Youville

BUFFALO,N.Y.- Matt Zanella scored a career-high 23 points connecting on 11-of-15 from the floor and the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team scored a season-high 90 points but came up short 108-90 to D'Youville in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

D'Youville improves its overall record to 3-5 and moves to 2-1 in the AMCC, while Pitt-Greensburg falls to 0-7 and 0-4 in conference play.

Along with scoring a season-high in points (90), Pitt-Greensburg also set single-game highs in assists (22) and field goals percentage (53.0%), but the Spartans managed to win the battle of the boards holding a 51-31 advantage and outscored the Bobcats 68-46 in the paint.

Three other players for the Bobcats were in double-figures along with Zanella, as Joe Mancini totaled 19 points and Kyle Bondi as well as Blake Shields came off the bench and chipped in 20 and 10 points respectively.

Leading the charge offensive was Jake Socha, who totaled a game-high 34 points and all five starters for D'Youville were in double-figures.

D'Youville led for much of the opening part of the first half, but a layup by Zanella gave Pitt-Greensburg its first lead of the game at 31-30 with 9:00 to go.

For the next four minutes the two sides traded baskets as the lead would change hands, but after tying the game at 35, D'Youville would go ahead for good and take a 57-47 lead into the locker room.

The Spartans remained in the lead for the entire second half, but the Bobcats would cut the deficit to 84-79 on Shields' three-pointer with 8:37 to go, but D'Youville held on for the 108-90 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday, when it travels to Berea, Ohio to face Baldwin Wallace at 7:00 p.m.
