Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Surge Propels Waynesburg Past Men’s Basketball

WAYNESBURG- Kyle Bondi scored a team-high 15 points and Blake Shields added a season-high 11 points and eight rebounds, but Pitt-Greensburg (0-9) could not overcome a nine-point halftime deficit as it fell 92-80 at Waynesburg (4-5) in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats got great production off its bench totaling a season-high 53 points and held a 44-36 edge in rebounding, including a 13-8 margin on the offensive glass, but the Yellow Jackets used the free-throw line to their advantage connecting on 22-of-33.

Pitt-Greensburg likes to get out on the fast break and score easy points beating its opponents down the court, but Saturday afternoon, Waynesburg turned the tables tallying 14 fast break points compared to just two for the Bobcats.

Midway through the first half, Cody Spaid's layup gave the Bobcats a 23-20 advantage, and after Joe Mancini once again tied the game at 27 with 5:50 remaining, Waynesburg reeled off a quick 6-0 run and would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the half.

Early on in the second half, Pitt-Greensburg climbed all the way back to within one on a three-point bucket by Zach Maxwelll, but the Yellow Jackets responded with an 8-0 run as they forced three straight turnovers by the Bobcats and forced a timeout by the visitors.

The Bobcats would cut the deficit to four on two different occasions in the second half, but Waynesburg held on for the 92-80 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday, when it hosts Penn State Behrend at 8:00 p.m. in Chambers Gymnasium.
