Second Half Shooting Lifts Penn State Behrend Past Men’s Basketball

GREENSBURG- Jay Grubb scored 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field, but Penn State Behrend (7-2, 4-0 AMCC) shot 52.3% from the field as it recorded an 89-45 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (0-10, 0-5 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Wednesday evening.

Penn State Behrend drilled five three-pointers in the first half and led 38-22 at halftime after shooting 48.3% in the opening 20 minutes, but came out on fire in the second half connecting on 20-of-36, and 5-for-10 from behind the three-point line.

Cody Spaid was also in double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg with 10 points, while the Lions tallied five players with over 10 points, led by Dan Wanker's double-double of 17 points and 12 boards.

Behrend led 21-9 midway through the opening half and with 6:19 to go, Grubb's layup cut the deficit to 34-18. Despite holding the Lions without a field goal for just under four minutes, Pitt-Greensburg was unable to take advantage of the scoring drought and would head into the half trailing 38-22.

Nate Burt came on as a substitution in the final 20 minutes and provided the fans with four monster blocks, but the halftime deficit was too much as Penn State Behrend would go on for the 89-45 victory.

The Bobcats return to the court Dec. 28 when they travel to Newport News, Va to compete in the Captains Shootout, where it will face Christopher Newport in the opening round matchup.
