Men’s Basketball Falls Short In Consolation Game Of Captains Shootout Versus William Peace

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team shot 44.6% from the field, but William Peace University forced 27 turnovers and converted the TO's into 35 points as the Pacers held on for the 86-66 victory in the consolation game of the Captains Shootout hosted by Christopher Newport University.

The Bobcats connected on 25-of-56 from the field for a 44.6% clip and held William Pace to just 40.8%, but the Pacers nailed eight three-pointers compared to just four for the Bobcats. The Pacers also won the rebounding battle holding a 49-39 edge on the glass and converted the offensive boards into 19 second chance points.

Despite coming up short in the win column, the Bobcats totaled a season-high in blocks with nine, and leading the way with freshman center Nate Burt who swatted a game-high four shot attempts. Kyle Bondi paced the Bobcats with 16 points on 6-of-9 from the field and 4-for-5 from the line, while Brady Kingston added nine and Cody Spaid notched eight points. Williams Peace had four players in double-figures on the afternoon and were led by Ryan Emfinger's game-high 21 points, knocking down 8-of-his-14 field goal attempts.

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage on Jake Kitner's three-pointer, his first career make from behind the three-point arc, and the Bobcats would continue to hold the lead until the 12:36 mark, when a layup by Emfinger gave the Pacers the 13-12 advantage. The Pacers led for the remainder of the half and took a 46-33 advantage into the locker room for halftime.

The Bobcats would cut the deficit to 15 in the second half, but William Peace went on for the 86-66 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court January 4, when it hosts Franciscan at 8:00 p.m. in Chambers Hall Gymnasium.
