Aloysius Slides Past Men’s Basketball Wednesday Night

GREENSBURG- Kyle Bondi scored a team-high 25 points and Matt Zanella grabbed 12 rebounds, but the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball (0-6, 0-3 AMCC) team fell 81-75 to visiting Mt. Aloysius (1-6, 1-1 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference showdown on Wednesday night in Chambers Hall.

The Bobcats totaled their second highest scoring output of the season on Wednesday evening and connected on 29-of-72 from the field for 40.3%­, but allowed 19 offensive rebounds to Mt. Aloysius, who converted the offensive boards into 24 second chance points.

The Bobcats did a great job of distributing the basketball totaling its second highest assist total of the season with 16 on 29 made field goals. Matt Darby paced Pitt-Greensburg with 13 points and a game-high five assists. Also in double-figures in Wednesday's contest was Jay Grubb who totaled 15 points, including connecting on all five of his free-throw attempts.

Darryl Sanders led the charge for the Mounties with a game-high 26 points, while Chad Eisenhuth and Tre Brown were also in double-figures with 14 and 12 points respectively.

Pitt-Greensburg led for the majority of the first half, extending its advantage to as much as nine points (32-23) on Cody Spaid's layup with 6:32 remaining in the half, but Mt. Aloysius outscored the Bobcats 18-8 over the final six minutes of the opening half and took a 41-40 lead heading into the halftime intermission.

The Mounties carried the moment into the second half and led for all but 14 seconds as Bondi's three gave Pitt-Greensburg a 52-51 advantage, but 14 seconds later Tre Brown hit a layup to give the lead back to Mt. Aloysius for good.

Despite shooting just 32.4% in the second half, Mt. Aloysius found other ways to score hitting 16-of-21 from the line and would go on for the 81-75 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday, as it faces D'Youville at 3:00 p.m.
