AGUADILLA, PR: The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team sat in a 7-7 deadlock with #11 Kean University after six innings, but succumb to seven late inning runs by the Cougars for a 14-7 defeat.
After Saturday's result, the Bobcats fall to 2-4 while Kean evens their record at 4-4 on the season.
A Ryan Dodson (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park)fielder's choice and subsequent Cougar error opened the afternoon's scoring with a pair of Bobcat runs in the bottom of the third inning. Kean would answer in the fourth, also adding two runs to tie the game at 2-2.
The Bobcats regained the advantage in the top of the fourth after a Mike Spadafore (New Freedom, PA, Susquehannock) RBI single to centerfield scored Jake Bulick (Sharpsville, PA, Sharpsville) for a 3-2 UPG lead.
The back and forth affair continued with five Kean runs over the next two innings, moving the Cougars atop a 7-3 lead after five and ½ innings played. Not to be outdone, the Bobcats responded with a bases loaded two-RBI single by catcher Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) that capped a four-run top of the sixth to once again bring the team's even at 7-7.
Unfortunately, for the Bobcats seven Kean runs over the final three innings would go unanswered and give the Cougars a 14-7 Clemente Cup victory.
Pitt-Greensburg picked up 12 hits on the afternoon with Bulick collecting a team-high three. Matt Moyer (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield), Dylan Pounds (Houston, PA, Chartiers-Houston), and Spadafore also finished with multiple hits, each posting a pair. Bozzuto added a team-high two RBI.
Cam Smith (Mars, PA, Mars Area) picked up the loss after entering for Dylan Pounds in the sixth.
The Bobcats continue the Clemente Cup with a 1:00pm showdown with SUNY-Canton. UPG will look to exact a bit of revenge for Friday's 9-6 decision in favor of the Kangaroos when the teams meet in Anasco, PR this afternoon.
