PITTSBURGH- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team (1-9) saw its two-match win streak come to an end Friday, as it dropped a 3-1 decision to La Roche on Friday evening.
La Roche opened winning the first set 25-21, but Pitt-Greensburg answer backed taking set two 25-19, but ultimately it was the Redhawks that took the final two sets, 25-20 and 25-23.
Offensively, Lauren Tassone led the way with 10 kills, while Autumn Karlheim had eight and Renee' Ault added six. Paige Burk and Amanda Ross provided great defense as they both added five blocks, while Paige Misawic totaled 18 assists and Erica Bosh was a force totaling 30 digs.
Game one was a back and forth battle for both teams, but the turning point was towards the middle of the game when Laura Nath scored a kill to tie the game at 12, the Redhawks reeled off eight of the next nine points and claimed 25-21 win to take the first set.
Pitt-Greensburg dominated the second set leading by as much as seven, 17-10 and would hold on to tie the game, claiming a 25-19 victory in set two.
The Bobcats dug themselves in a hole early and would trail 10-3 in the opening moments in the third set. La Roche pushed the lead to 18-8, but Pitt-Greensburg clawed its way back getting to within two, 22-20, but ultimately would come up short 25-20.
Pitt-Greensburg tied the final set at 20 on a kill by Karlheim, but La Roche answered with three-straight points and won the fourth and final set 25-23 to take the match.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Tuesday (Sept. 20) when it takes on Washington and Jefferson at 7:00 p.m.
