WASHINGTON-The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball (2-10) team dropped a five-set battle to Washington and Jefferson (9-2) in a non-conference matchup on Monday evening.
Pitt-Greensburg and Washington and Jefferson traded sets with W&J taking the first and third sets, while the Bobcats claimed the second and fourth set, setting up a winner-take-all fifth and final set.
The Presidents jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Pitt-Greensburg tied it and W&J once again held the lead, 6-3, but the Bobcats battled back and tied the final set at six.
After
Renee' Ault's kill tied the fifth set at six, W&J reeled off six straight points and would come out victorious in the final stanza 15-7 and take the match 3-2.
Lauren Tassone,
Amanda Ross, and Ault all were forces on offense for the Bobcats totaling 10 kills, and defensively
Erica Bosh notched 33 digs to keep the play alive.
Emma Dongilli chipped in on offense with 20 kills, while teammate
Paige Misawic chipped in with 14.Washington and Jefferson had a difficult time of getting its offense going as Ross totaled six blocks, and Tassone and
Autumn Karlheim each had three.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Thursday (Sept. 22) when it faces Chatham. Thursday's match is scheduled for a. 8:00 p.m. first serve.
