GREENSBURG- Despite four players scoring in double-digits, the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team dropped a 99-86 decision to Penn State Altoona in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tilt Wednesday night in Chambers Hall.
Kyle Bondi led the Bobcats with 20 points,
Joe Mancini added 19 and both
Jay Grubb and
Blake Shields each totaled 17 points for the Bobcats, while Medaille had five players tally double-digit performances led by Ishimeal Nance who had a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists.
Both teams shot the ball just a tick under 50% as Altoona shot 48.5% and Pitt-Greensburg was not far behind at 48.0%. The Bobcats knocked down nine three-pointers on the night and held a 48-38 advantage on the glass over the Lions, but Altoona held off the Bobcats knocking down 25-of-40 from the free-throw line compared to just 5-of-6 for Pitt-Greensburg.
The Bobcats and the Lions were locked in a tight battle for much of the first half, but Altoona took a 29-23 lead on Tyson West's three-pointer with 6:20 to go in the first half and the Lions went into the half leading 40-35.
Penn State Altoona gave themselves some breathing room with a quick start to the second half going on a 10-2 run over the first three minutes, and despite runs throughout the final 20 minutes from the Bobcats, Penn State Altoona held on for a 99-86 victory.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday, when it faces Medaille at 3:00 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
