GREENSBURG-
Kyle Bondi scored a game-high 23 points by the Pitt-Greenburg men's basketball team fell 83-70 to D'Youville on Saturday afternoon.
Pitt-Greensburg trailed 43-31 at the halftime intermission and continued to slowly chip away at the deficit in the second half as it tied the game at 64 on a three-pointer by
Matt Darby and finally took the lead on a free-throw by Bondi with 5:43 remaining in regulation.
However, the lead would not last long as Zach Blask put the Spartans in the lead once again with a three-pointer and after being down one, D'Youville went on a 10-0 run to hold on for the win.
Jay Grubb and
Cody Spaid were also in double-figures for the Bobcats scoring 15 and 11 points respectively, while D'Youville had four players notch double-digit scoring performances led by Jeremy VanDuluitgaarden and Jake Socha's 16 point efforts.
Despite not shooting the ball well hitting just 32.4% from the floor, the Bobcats got back into the game with great defense, forcing 22 turnovers by D'Youville, 13 of which came in the second half.
The Spartans came out in the first half on fire hitting 16-of-34 from the field for a 47.1% effort and knocked down five three-pointers, but despite not shooting the ball well in the opening half, trailed 30-29 with 4:52 left in the first half. D'Youville held the Bobcats to just two points over the final five minutes to race out to a 12-point halftime lead.
D'Youville led for the majority of the second half despite the Bobcats making several runs but every time Pitt-Greensburg would cut it close, D'Youville would answer with a clutch basket.
Pitt-Greensburg slowly and methodically chipped away at the deficit as it forced 13 second half turnovers from the Spartans and on the offensive side continued to go after missed shooting, collecting eight offensive rebounds and held the Spartans to just three rebounds on the offensive end of the court.
The Bobcats came all the way back and took a 65-64 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the game, but D'Youville answered with a Blask three-pointer and followed up with two of Vanduluit's game-high 16 points as the Spartans would hold on for the 83-70 win.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday when it travels to Penn State Behrend for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
