Penn State Altoona Tops @UPGbasketball Wednesday Night In AMCC Opener

GREENSBURG- Kyle Bondi scored a game-high 22 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, but the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team dropped its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener 77-65 to Penn State Altoona Wednesday evening in Chambers Hall.

With the win, Altoona improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Pitt-Greensburg falls to 1-3, and 0-1 in the AMCC.

Alongside Bondi, Cam Siegfreid also reached double-digits totaling 10 points and hauled down seven rebounds, while Jay Grubb led the team with nine rebounds to go along with seven points.

Penn State Altoona had four players with double-digit scoring outputs on the evening and were led by Dequan Jackson, who recorded a double-double of 20 points and 12 boards.

The Lions held the lead for the opening part of the first half, but the Bobcats fought back and a three-pointer from Bondi followed by a free-throw from Siegfried put Pitt-Greensburg ahead 17-16 with 8:21 left in the half.

Aubrey Washington answered with a three-ball to put the Lions back in front, 19-18, which was the beginning of a 17-8 run from Altoona to end the half. Cameron Gardner-Nicholson scored the last points of the half for either team going 1-of-2 from the free-throw line and Penn State Altoona headed to the locker room leading by 10.

Altoona led by double-digits the entire second half and a three-pointer Dequan Jackson gave the Lions their largest lead 68-51 with 3:35 left in regulation, as Penn State Altoona would go on for the 77-65 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday afternoon when it takes to the road to face Medaille at 1 pm.
