Men's Basketball Drops Conference Matchup At Penn State Behrend Sunday Afternoon

ERIE- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team led 37-31 at halftime, but Penn State Behrend used a dominant second half performance, outscoring the Bobcats 48-17 over the final 20 minutes in a 79-54 victory Sunday afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup inside the Junker Center.

Pitt-Greensburg shot 53.85% in the opening half making 14-of-26 from the field and 8-of-15 from behind the three-point arc, but the Lions were on fire in the second half hitting 17-of-its-25 field goal attempts and 10-of-16 from three-point distance. Penn State Behrend held the Bobcats to just 7-of-24 shooting in the final 20 minutes and 3-of-13 from three.

Joe Mancini and Cody Spaid were both in double-digits for Pitt-Greensburg with 15 and 11 points respectively. Mancini continued his hot shooting as he connected on 5-of-8 from three, while Spaid also hauled down seven rebounds.

The Lions placed four in double-digits and were led by Justin Gorny's game-high 26 points on 10-of-11 from the floor.

Penn State Behrend opened with the first basket of the contest, but that would be the lone lead of the opening half for the Lions. Mancini answered with back-to-back three-pointers to put the Bobcats in front.

Pitt-Greensburg held the lead for the remainder of the half and David Knox's three-pointer with 4:32 left put the Bobcats ahead 37-20, but the Lions ended the half on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to six (37-31) at halftime.

The Bobcats remained in the lead for the opening four minutes of the second half, but the Lions would jump ahead 44-42 for their first lead since early on in the opening half, as Dan Wanker drilled a three.

Penn State Behrend would outscore the Bobcats 35-12 over the final 16 minutes and go on for a 79-54 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Friday and Saturday as it competes in the McDonald's Holiday Tournament hosted by Bluffton University. The Bobcats will face Illinois College Friday afternoon at 2 pm and conclude the tournament Saturday with a matchup against Bluffton or Ohio State Lima.
