GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team held a 5-1 lead after two innings of play, but St. Vincent continued to chip away and scored seven runs over the final four innings for an 8-5 victory Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Park.
Saint Vincent starting pitcher Bobby Finn, had trouble finding the zone and throwing strikes, as he walked six batters in just 2/3 of an inning , which resulted in four runs for the Bobcats, before the Bearcats made a call to the bullpen. St. Vincent brought on Blaine Crawford, who walked
Daniel Kiester, but struck out
Zack Zimmerman to end the inning.
The Bobcats scored their second run of the afternoon in their next at-bats as
Dylan Pounds and
Ryan Dodson smacked back-to-back doubles to put Pitt-Greensburg up 5-1.
However, that would be the last runs of the afternoon for the Bobcats. Pitt-Greensburg managed just six hits on the afternoon, four of which would come over the final seven innings.
The Bearcats continued to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the game at five on a solo blast by Nick LaCava in the top of the seventh.
Saint Vincent took the lead for good with a three-run eighth inning and called Luke Spisak to close out the ninth. Spisak gave up back-to-back two out singles to Dodson and
Tyler Lilja, but the Bearcat closer got
Tyler Holland to ground out for the final out of the afternoon and send St. Vincent to the 8-5 win.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the diamond Thursday, when it travels to Ohio to face Wooster in a non-conference matchup at 4:00 p.m.
