Four-Run First Inning Lifts Chatham Past @PittGbgBaseball

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team fell 7-5 to Chatham in a non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

This was the third time the two teams faced each other in nine days. Pitt-Greensburg won both games of the doubleheader 11-4 and 8-6, but it was Chatham that came out on top Wednesday afternoon by a 7-5 final.

The Cougars would jump out to a quick 4-0 advantage after the first inning and would tack on two additional runs in the third, before the Bobcats got their vaunted offense clicking.

Chatham scored a run in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom, Pitt-Greensburg had the middle of the lineup due up, and did not disappoint.

Dylan Pounds led off with a single and moved over to second on a wild pitch, which brought up the streaking Tyler Holland. Coming into Wednesday's game, Holland had homered in four consecutive games, and holding a 3-1 count in the at-bat, the sophomore first baseman extended his home run streak to five with a two-run blast.

Later in the inning, Chris Common scored the third run of the inning on an RBI single by Mike Parlak, and after the Cougars went to the bullpen, Parlak crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Parlak took off for home on a wild pitch, and looked like he was dead in his tracks, but the junior jumped over the outstretched glove of the Chatham pitcher and touched home on the incredible acrobatic play.

Mike Spadafore drove in the fifth run of the afternoon for Pitt-Greensburg with a single in the sixth inning, but the Bobcats could not overcome the first inning deficit.
