LATROBE- The Pitt-Greensburg Volleyball Team fell to Waynesburg 3-2 in five sets in the first match of the afternoon and concluded the day losing 3-0 to Frostburg State on the first day of the St. Vincent Tournament Friday afternoon.
Pitt-Greensburg pushed Waynesburg to the brink in the first match of the day, as the two sides traded wins over the first four sets, causing the match to go into a fifth-set tiebreaker. Ultimately, it was the Yellow Jackets came out on top taking set five 15-10 and claiming the victory.
For the day, senior
Amanda Ross paced the offensive attack totaling 17 kills, followed by junior
Autumn Karlheim's15 kills and
Rayli Turek, who totaled 10.
Emma Dongilli set up the Bobcat offense totaling 48 assists over the two matches and both Waynesburg and Frostburg State had trouble dealing with the outstanding sevices of
Trinity Ryan, as the freshman nailed eight aces on the day. Dongilli totaled 30 assists in the five-set marathon against the Yellow Jackets, which trailed her career-high by just one assist, which she set as a freshman against Hollins University.
Defensively,
Erica Bosh displayed senior leadership notching 30 digs, while Ryan and Dongilli also chipped in with 20 and 12 digs respectively.
In the second match of the day, Pitt-Greensburg struggled to gain momentum and would fall in three sets to Frostburg.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday for two games and will take on St. Vincent at 10 am followed by Westminster at 4 p.m.
