Strong First Half Lifts La Roche Past @UPGbasketball

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (4-9, 2-6 AMCC) fell 81-61 to visiting La Roche Wednesday evening in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game inside Chambers Hall.

La Roche came out strong in the first half hitting 16-of-35 from the field for 46% and knocked down 6-of-16 from three-point distance, while Pitt-Greensburg struggled, shooting just 26% from the floor and 1-of-13 from three. The Bobcats shot the ball much better in the second half connecting on 15-of-its-31 attempts for just under 50% and knocked down 4-of-9 from behind the three-point arc.

Cam Seigfreid led the way offensively for the Bobcats with 15 points, while Kyle Bondi and Brady Kingston were also in double-figures with 13 points each. David Knox provided a spark off the bench for Pitt-Greensburg with a career-high eight rebounds, six of which he snagged on the offensive glass.

Arnes Bajora led four players in double-figures fpr the Redhawks with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Ryan Norkus also nearly notched a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Despite coming up short in the win column, the Bobcats did a great job of forcing turnovers as the Redhawks turned the ball over 13 times compared to 12 for the hosts, but Pitt-Greensburg cashed the chances into 14 points, compared to just seven for La Roche.

Pitt-Greensburg held the lead early and Brady Kingtson's layup put the Bobcats in front 9-5, but back-to-back baskets from Trell Thomas and Bajora gave the lead to La Roche for good.

Just under the halfway mark of the first half, an old-fashioned three-point play by Seigfreid cut the deficit to six (23-17), but the Redhawks responded with a 9-0 to push their lead to double-digits.

The Bobcats nearly shot 50% from the floor in the second half but could not overcome a 21-point deficit as La Roche would hold on for the 81-61 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday when it treks to face Pitt-Bradford at 1 pm.
