Hickey's Jumper With Two Seconds Left Lifts Franciscan To 62-60 Win Over @UPGBasketball

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio- Sean Hickey's shot with two seconds remaining in regulation gave Franciscan (3-9, 2-4 AMCC) a 62-60 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (4-7, 2-4 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Wednesday evening.

Matt Trent tied the game at 60 for Franciscan as he knocked down a jumper with 32 seconds left before Pitt-Greensburg would call a timeout to setup a play with a chance to win the game. After the timeout, the Bobcats had a chance to go ahead on the scoreboard but a three-point attempt was no good and gave the ball back to Franciscan. The Barons would draw up a final play and on the ensuing possession, Hickey drove the baseline and knocked down a shot jumper to give the Barons a 62-60 lead with just two seconds left.

On the inbounds, the Bobcats got the ball to its best three-pointer shooter in Joe Mancini and Mancini's jumper from just over the halfcourt line was no good and the Barons would survive with the 62-60 win.

Cody Spaid paced the Bobcats with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds, while Cam Seigfreid and David Runco were also in double-figures totaling 11 and 10 points respectively.

Hickey led the Barons with 15 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and also dished out a team-high three assists.

Both teams got off to a tough start as neither side would get on the scoreboard until nearly four minutes gone by in the first half when Jay Grubb hit a layup to put the Bobcats in front 2-0.

Pitt-Greensburg remained in front for the entire first half and led by as much as 11 with 28 seconds left. The Bobcats were propelled by three-point shooting in the opening half of action as they knocked down 6-of-14, while holding the Barons to just 2-for-6.

A three-pointer from Runco gave Pitt-Greensburg its largest lead at 47-33 with 14:27 left in regulation, but the Barons responded with a 13-1 run over the next four minutes to trim their deficit to two (48-46) at the halfway mark of the second half.

With 2:57 left in regulation, Spaid's jumper put the Bobcats ahead 58-51, but the Barons continued to claw their way back and would tie the game with 32 seconds left on Trent's jumper.

Seigfreid's three-pointer attempt was no good and after a timeout by the Barons, Hickey hit a baseline jumper to lift Franciscan to the 62-60 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday, hosting Hilbert at Chambers Hall for a 1 pm tip-off.
