Men's Basketball Falls To Hilbert Saturday Afternoon

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (4-8, 2-5 AMCC) dropped a 79-65 decision to Hilbert (7-4, 5-1 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall.

This was the first conference home loss for the Bobcats this season.

The Bobcats had four players notch double-figures on the afternoon led by Joe Mancini's 14 points, 12 of which came from behind the three-point arc. Jay Grubb and Kyle Bondi each added 12 points, while sophomore Cody Spaid added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Hilbert also had four players in double-figures led by Antonio Alvarez who scored a game-high 23 points and also grabbed nine rebounds.

Pitt-Greensburg displayed its touch for outside the arc knocking down 7-of-17 and also forced 19 turnovers, which it converted into 16 points, compared to just 11 for the Hawks. Hilbert managed to hit just 3-of-15 from three-point distance, but came up clutch from the charity stripe hitting 18-of-22 for 81.8%.

Hilbert led 39-30 at halftime as the Hawks came out and shot 52% in the opening half, knocking down 14-of-its-27 attempts, while Pitt-Greensburg made just 11-of-30.
Pitt-Greensburg held the lead early in the first half and took its largest lead 10-4 on a three-pointer from Spaid with 15:37 remaining.

The Hawks came back and tied the game at 12 on a jumper from Masia Phillips and took the lead for good on a three-pointer from Alvarez with 12:21 to go in the opening half.

Two free-throws by Cam Seigfreid right before the half cut the deficit to 39-30 heading into halftime.

Hilbert continued to lead by double-digits for the entire second half and would hold on for a 79-65 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday, playing host to La Roche at 6 pm.
