Volleyball Drops Conference Matchup To La Roche Tuesday Night

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team (0-18, 0-3 AMCC) dropped a 3-0 decision to La Roche (9-10, 2-2 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Tuesday evening in Chambers Hall.

Pitt-Greensburg totaled 24 attacks on 105 attempts, while La Roche tallied 33 kills on 92 swings.

Alexis Ray led the way offensively for the Bobcats, tallying eight kills, while Mackenzie Schropp put together a solid game with seven kills, one assist, and five digs. Emma Dongilli recorded a game-high 19 assists and both Kassi Niver and Ray had eight digs to lead the home side.

The best set for both schools came in game three, as Pitt-Greensburg totaled 12 kills on 43 attacks with just five errors for a .163 hitting percentage. La Roche tallied 14 kills on 47 attacks with six errors for a .170 attack percentage.

La Roche made quick work of the Bobcats in the opening two sets, taking set one 25-12 and eased its way to a 25-11 victory in game two. The Redhawks jumped out to a quick 9-5 advantage in game three and pushed their lead to 16-8 on a service ace, before Pitt-Greensburg called timeout. It looked as if it would be smooth sailing for the remainder of the match as a service ace by Anna Dietz put the Redhawks up 23-16. After the ace, the Bobcats called timeout to stop the momentum.

Following the timeout, Pitt-Greensburg scored five of the next six points to get within two (24-22), before La Roche called its first timeout. Ray's kill got the Bobcats within 24-23, but Laura Nath put the match away with a kill as the Redhawks won game three, 25-23.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action October 13 when it faces D'Youville at 10 and Hilbert later that day at 4 pm.
