GREENSBURG- Matt Johnson's game-high 24 points helped propel the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team to a 81-70 victory over Washington and Jefferson in the season-opener Tuesday evening inside Chambers Hall.

Johnson led all scorers in the game with 24 points on 9-of-12 from the floor and was 3-of-5 from three-point distance. The sophomore guard also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out two assists.

Pitt-Greensburg put together an impressive performance in front of a packed crowd, connecting on 30-of-56 from the field for 53.6% and made 9-of-20 from behind the three-point arc. The Bobcats built a 16-point halftime lead after shooting 51.4% in the opening 20 minutes and knocking down seven three-pointers.

Brady Kingston, Cody Spaid, and Kyle Bondi also tallied double-digit scoring efforts in the victory for the Bobcats, scoring 14, 10, and 10 points respectively. Pitt-Greensburg dominated the glass in the win outrebounding the Presidents 45-29, including a 22-14 advantage over the final 20 minutes.

Pitt-Greensburg came out of the gates quickly and grabbed a 13-4 lead just under four minutes into the opening half and would extend its advantage to as much as 20 on a layup by Cam Seigfreid with 2:14 left in the first half. Two free-throws by Kingston with 34 seconds left put the Bobcats ahead 45-29 heading into halftime.

W&J continued to chip away at the Pitt-Greensburg lead with solid defense and clutch shooting from deep. The Presidents forced 15 second half turnovers and helped trim the Bobcat lead to single digits, making seven three-point attempts over the final 20 minutes. Zach Queen's three-pointer cut the Pitt-Greensburg lead to 71-66 with 2:20 remaining in regulation, but an old-fashioned three-point play by Johnson put the Bobcats ahead by eight.

The Bobcats knocked down all four of its attempts at the line in the final minute and would go on for an 81-70 victory.
