Men's Basketball Erases 20-Point Deficit But Fall In OT At Franciscan Wednesday Night

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team erased a 20-point deficit to force overtime, but Franciscan outscored the Bobcats 19-14 in the extra period as the Barons would hold on for the 85-80 victory Wednesday evening in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup inside Finnegan Fieldhouse.

Pitt-Greensburg trailed by as much as 20 with 3:10 left in the first half, but continued to chip away at the deficit behind efficient shooting on the offensive end and constant pressure on the defensive side.

After shooting 52% in the first half including hitting 8-of-16 from three, Franciscan went cold from the floor, while Pitt-Greensburg heated up. Over the final 20 minutes of play, Pitt-Greensburg shot 48% from the floor, connecting on 17-of-36, while defensively held Franciscan to just 6-of-29 and 1-of-7 from three.

The Bobcats came all the way back and would force overtime as Matt Johnson's jumper with 18 seconds left tied the game at 66.

Both teams had no problem scoring the basketball in the extra period as the two sides combined for 36 points, but it was Franciscan that opened with back-to-back baskets in the extra period as the Barons would outscore Pitt-Greensburg 19-14 in overtime and hold on for the 85-80 victory.

Cam Seigfreid led the Bobcats with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Johnson and Tommy Arbuckle were also in double-figures with 18 and 11 points respectively. Johnson recorded his second double-digit scoring output of the season, hitting 6-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Arbuckle put together his best scoring output of the season as the freshman was 4-of-6 from the floor and hit 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc.

For a second-straight game, Pitt-Greensburg got great production from its bench totaling 26 points, while the Barons totaled just seven points from its reserves. The Bobcats continued to get the ball inside the paint for easy points during its 20-point comeback, totaling 26 points in the paint compared to just 10 for the Barons.

After turning the ball over 10 times in the first half which were converted into 10 points for Franciscan, the Bobcats committed just seven over the final 20 minutes of regulation. In the second half, the Bobcats forced Franciscan into 10 turnovers, which they converted into 11 points, while the Barons managed just four points off the seven turnovers from the Bobcats.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday, when it plays host to Hilbert for its AMCC home opener. Saturday's contest is scheduled to tip-off at 3 pm.
