Late Surge Sends La Roche Past Men’s Basketball

GREENSBURG- An 11-6 run over the final 2:13 of the second half, lifted La Roche (5-1, 3-0 AMCC) to an 85-80 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (3-5, 1-2 AMCC) Wednesday evening inside Chambers Hall.

Both teams were tied at 74 with just over two minutes left in the contest, but the 2018 AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, Ray Quan Phiffer scored three-straight buckets which jump started an 11-6 run over the final 2:13 of regulation. The Redhawks came up clutch from the charity stripe hitting all six of its attempts in the final stretch of the game.

Cam Seigfreid led the way for Pitt-Greensburg with 26 points on 9-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. The sophomore guard scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half. Seigfreid started the second half on fire, totaling 10 points in the opening three minutes, as he scored on five-straight trips down the floor.

Jay Grubb also was in double-figures, totaling 10 points and four rebounds, while Matt Johnson and Kyle Bondi both chipped in off the bench with 12 and 11 points respectively.

La Roche would lead for the entire first half and held a 35-31 advantage at the halftime break. Early in the second half, the Redhawks pushed their lead to eight (44-38) on a bucket from Phifer with 16:43 left in the game.

Pitt-Greensburg methodically cut into the La Roche advantage and jumped ahead on the scoreboard for the first time, as Johnson connected on a three-point to put the Bobcats in front 58-57 at the 11:33 mark.

The Bobcats continued to fend off the Redhawks, but La Roche would ultimately tie the game at 74 on a bucket from Phifer and take the lead for good on the next possession, as Phiffer found the twine from three.

La Roche would fend off a late charge from Pitt-Greensburg and hold on for an 85-80 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday afternoon, as it travels to face Pitt-Bradford at 4 p.m.
