@UPGBasketball Upended At Valley Forge Wednesday Night

PHOENIXVILLE- Despite shooting nearly 50% in the second half, the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team fell 79-73 at Valley Forge Wednesday evening in the team's final nonconference game of the season.

Pitt-Greensburg shot 42% in the opening half knocking down 12-of-29 and trailed by six at the halftime break. Valley Forge was not much better in the opening 20 minutes hitting 12-of-32 (37.5%), but managed to connect on 4-of-11 from three-point distance and make 9-of-13 at the foul line.

Both teams caught fire after halftime as Pitt-Greensburg hit 18-of-37 for 49%, while Valley Forge made 15-of-29 for 52%. Cam Seigfreid paced the Bobcats with a career-high 24 points on 10-of-18 from the field and led the team with eight rebounds. Kyle Bondi, Jay Grubb, and Nate Burt were also in double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg. Bondi added 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Grubb added 12 points and four rebounds, followed by Burt, who notched 10 points, four rebounds, and a block.

Alex Sanchez was on fire all night long for the Patriots, scoring a game-high 35 points on 11-of-22 and knocked down 10-of-13 from the foul line. Sanchez totaled just seven points at halftime after shooting 2-of-8 from the field, but exploded for 28 of the team's 42 second half points, connecting on 9-of-14 from the field, 3-of-5 from three, and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Pitt-Greensburg started the game off quickly leading 8-2 just over two minutes into the contest. The Bobcats continued to remain in the lead until the 13:12 mark when Sanchez knocked down a jumper to put the Patriots ahead 16-15.

The two sides traded baskets over the next four minutes and following a jumper by Seigfreid to put the Bobcats up 23-22, Valley Forge reeled off a 6-0 run to regain the lead for the remainder of the first half. Pitt-Greensburg trailed 32-31 with 4:02 left after a three-pointer from Bondi, but the Patriots ended the half on a 6-0 run and headed into the half holding a 37-31 advantage.

Pitt-Greensburg cut the deficit to two (50-48) on a Bondi jumper with 14:47 left in regulation, but the Patriots responded with an 11-0 run to push their lead to 13 and would go on for the 79-73 victory.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, hosting Penn State Behrend at 1 p.m. During halftime of the women's basketball game Saturday, Pitt-Greensburg's All-AMCC selections from this past Fall and Spring will be recognized.
