Three-Point Shooting Lifts Penn State Behrend Past @UPGBasketball

GREENSBURG- Penn State Behrend connected on 14-of-29 from behind the three-point arc to hold off the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team 68-57 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Hall. 

Penn State Behrend led 38-23 at halftime as it used the three-point shot to its advantage, hitting 9-of-17 attempts in the opening half. After going 0-of-10 from three in the opening 20 minutes, the Bobcats made 5 three-pointers in the second half and outscored the Lions 34-30 in the second half. 

Malike Brinson paced the Lions with 16 points on 5-of-7 from the floor, while Derrick Clark added 11 pointed and six assists to round out the double-digit scorers for Behrend. Mike Fisher notched nine points but dished out a game-high 11 assists to aid the Lions in the win. 

Kyle Bondi and David Runco each totaled 13 points to lead the Bobcats. Bondi also added eight rebounds and dished out two assists, while Runco totaled his career-high, hitting 5-of-9 from the floor. Nate Burt provided a spark on the defensive end, recording a game-high four blocks--the fifth time this season the sophomore center has totaled three or more swats. 

Despite coming up short in the win column, the Bobcats tied a season-high nine steals. 

Pitt-Greensburg held an early 4-2 lead, but back-to-back three-pointers from Derrick Clark and Brinson put the Lions in front. Behrend drilled nine three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes to hold a commanding 38-23 lead at the halftime break. 

The Bobcats held the Lions to 40% shooting in the second half and outscored Behrend 34-30 in the second half, but Pitt-Greensburg would come up on the short end, falling 68-57. 

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Wednesday evening, playing host to Franciscan. Wednesday's matchup is set for a 6 pm tip-off.
