@UPGBasketball Drops Overtime Matchup To Franciscan

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (6-15, 4-11 AMCC) suffered a 60-57 overtime defeat to Franciscan (5-17, 4-11 AMCC), Wednesday evening inside Chambers Hall.

Pitt-Greensburg held the lead for much of the overtime period and remained ahead 55-54 with 1:03 left on the clock. After a missed jumper from the Bobcats, the Barons corralled the rebound and called timeout with 34 ticks left to set up the offensive possession.

On the ensuing inbounds play after the stoppage, Matt Trent connected on a layup to but the Barons ahead 56-55 with just 24 seconds remaining. The Bobcats called a timeout, but on the next possession turned the ball over and were forced to intentionally foul to extend the game. Aaron Foldi stepped up and hit both free-throws to put the Barons ahead 58-55 with 10 seconds on the clock.

Cam Seigfreid drove the lane and hit a layup to get the Bobcats within one, 58-57, and fouled on the inbounds pass, sending Keoni Sablan to the line. Sablan calmly knocked down both attempts and a half-court heave from Mancini was no good, as the Barons held on for a 60-57 win.

Pitt-Greensburg came out cold in the opening half shooting just 31% on 8-of-26 from the floor and 5-of-16 from three, but put together a solid effort over the final 20 minutes, connecting on 7-of-18 (39%) and 2-of-7 from distance. The Bobcats trailed 27-21 at the halftime break, but outscored the Barons 28-22 over the final 20 minutes.

Mancini led the way offensively, pouring in 13 points, three assists, and two steals, while Seigfreid and Jay Grubb each had 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Bobcats. Sablan paced the Barons with 15, while Juwan Perkins and Matt Trent each chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively.

The Bobcats went into halftime trailing by six and continued to remain behind on the scoreboard, but erased the deficit and took the lead with just over five minutes left in regulation on two free-throws by Brady Kingston

Perkins put the Barons back in front, 48-47,  with a fastbreak layup, but Seigfreid erased the short lead with a layup of his own, as the Bobcats held a 49-48 advantage with 2:48 left in regulation.

Neither team would score a field goal over the final 2:48 of regulation, but Sablan drew a foul with 14 tics remaining and headed to the line with a chance to tie or take the lead. Sabalan's first attempt was no good, but made the second to tie the game at 49.

Pitt-Greensburg called a TO to setup a game-winning play, but the attempt was no good sending the game into OT.

Matt Trent gave the Barons a 56-55 lead in the extra period and Foldi made both attempts to send Franciscan to the 60-57 victory.

The Bobcats return to the court Saturday, when they face Hilbert for a 1 pm contest.
