@Pittgbgbaseball Holds Off Rhode Island College To Earn 8-7 Win In Second Game Of Doubleheader

AUBURNDALE- Freshman Andy Prentice made the most of his collegiate debut, tossing five strong innings and Abdi Rodriguez-Polanco shut the door over the final two innings to give the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team an 8-7 victory in the second game of a doubleheader with Rhode Island College. 

Rhode Island totaled 18 hits and hit four home runs to open with a 19-4 victory in the first of two games of the afternoon, while Pitt-Greensburg put together a six-run fifth inning en route to an 8-7 win in game two. 

Ian Hart put together an impressive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples and a walk, while Zack Zimmerman continued his solid start to the season, collecting three hits in five plate appearances, with a tripe and two runs. Through four games, the senior infielder is batting ,417 with three runs, a triple, and has collected two RBI. 

Noah Beasley, Daniel Kiester, and Reno Rainey each tallied two hits on the afternoon, , while Chris Common added a triple. Pitt-Greensburg continues to impressive at the plate smashing 15 extra-base hits in just four games to start the 2018 season. 

Game 1- Rhode Island College 19, Pitt-Greensburg 4

Rhode Island opened the game with a seven-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Shaun Vigeant.

The Bobcats got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Rainey drove in Zimmerman with a sac fly, but the Anchorman would strike for four additional runs in the top of the second to take an 11-1 lead. 

Rhode Island added a single run in the third as well as the sixth, but Pitt-Greensburg collected four hits and took advantage of four errors, for a four-run sixth. Common drove in the first run of the inning on an RBI triple to score Tyler Holland, Parlak followed with an RBI double, and Kiester brought Parlak home with an RBI single to right field to complete the three-run inning. 

The Anchorman would go on to add six more tally's in the seventh and go on to take game one 19-4. 

Game - Pitt-Greensburg 8, Rhode Island 7

Prentice got the starting nod in game two, and the freshman right hander tossed five strong innings, allowing just just one earned run on four hits and struck out four to earn his first career win. 

Rodriguez-Polanco came on and tossed two innings of relief, allowing just one run on two hits and struck out two to earn the save and give Pitt-Greensburg the split. 

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the third as Holland scored Noah Beasley with a sac fly, but the Anchorman proceeded to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. 

Pitt-Greensburg would explode at the plate, tallying six runs in the top of the fifth. Bealsey drew a walk to begin the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Zimmerman drew a four pitch walk followed by a Rainey single, which drove in Beasley. Zimmerman touched home plate on an RBI single by Holland, and Mike Dolan scored Parlak and Holland with a two-RBI double. Dolan would come around to score later in the inning on a wild pitch. 

Rhode Island added two in the bottom of the inning, but Beasley crossed home plate in the top of the sixth to put Pitt-Greensburg ahead 8-4. 

Rhode Island added three more runs in the sixth and in the seventh, Tyler Walsh scored on a Tyler Calabro for the seventh run of the afternoon. With the tying run on third base and two outs, Rodriguez- Polanco got Rommy Morel to pop up for the third out and send Pitt-Greensburg to the 8-7 win. 

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow morning, with a single nine-inning contest against New Jersey City University scheduled for 9 am.
