Five-Run Second Propels New Jersey City Past @Pittgbgbaseball

AUBURNDALE, Fla- New Jersey City (3-0) used a five-run second inning en route to a 6-2 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg baseball (2-3) team Sunday morning at the RussMat Invitational.

Noah Bealsey and Reno Rainey each collected two hits on the afternoon, while Tyler Holland and Mike Parlak each drove in a run for the Bobcats. Holland showed his disciple at the plate, drawing two walks, and as a team, Pitt-Greensburg totaled six base-on-balls.

Brandon Hoener put forth a solid effort on the mound in his first start of the season, tossing eight strong innings with four strikeouts and just one walk. Jose Ortiz was equally as effective for the Gothic Knights scattering seven hits over 6.1 innings, while fanning eight to pick up the win. Arron Skinner came on to pitch the ninth for Pitt-Greensburg, and the freshman left hander did not allow a hit and struck out a batter in his lone inning of work.

Pitt-Greensburg scored the game's first run in the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage. Rainey smacked an two-out double down the right field line and would come around to score on the next at-bat, as Holland drilled a two-bag base hit to score Rainey.

New Jersey City would come right back in the top of the second, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 5-1 lead after two innings of play.

Parlak displayed patience at the plate in the third, drawing a bases-loaded walk, which brought Beasley in for the team's second run of the afternoon. Beasley smacked a single to lead off the inning, and both Holland and Common drew back-to-back walks to load the bases, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Parlak.

The Gothic Knights added a sixth run of the afternoon in the seventh and would go on to take the game with a 6-2 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field Tuesday morning with a matchup against Husson. First pitch for the double-header is set for 9 am.
