GREENSBURG-The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team belted 10 home runs as it swept both games of a doubleheader at Penn State Altoona Tuesday afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest.

The Bobcats broke out the bats throughout the doubleheader, totaling 35 runs on 42 hits, which included belting 10 home runs.

Pitt-Greensburg also got two quality pitching performances from starters Andy Prentice and Brandon Hoener. Prentice improved to 4-0 on the season, tossing 6.2 strong innings, allowing just three earned runs and struck out two in the victory. In the second game of the afternoon, Hoener tossed a complete game and struck out seven to earn his first win of the season.

In total, the Bobcats batted .472 on the afternoon and totaled 23 extra-base hits, which included belting five home runs in each game of the doubleheader.

Reno Rainey led the way offensively, going 7-for-12 at the plate, with two home runs and six RBI, while Zack Zimmerman collected six hits in 10 plate appearances. Zimmerman also led the team with six runs on the afternoon and drive in six RBI, while Mike Dolan collected a team-high seven RBI.

Chris Common went 5-for-10 with two home runs, and Ian Hart, Mike Parlak, and Noah Beasley each had four base hits. Derek Shaw, Tyler Holland, Mike Parlak, and Dolan all went deep for Pitt-Greensburg.

Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 19, Penn State Altoona 6

Pitt-Greensburg got on the board with a big second inning, totaling five runs on four hits. Common and Shaw smacked back-to-back one out singles, and Common moved over to third on a fielders choice by Dan Kiester. Zimmerman came through with an RBI single to left field and both Beasley and Dolan drew back-to-back walks, which put the Bobcats ahead 2-0. Rainey stepped to the plate with the bases still full of runners and the freshman left hander emptied the bases with a single to complete the five run inning.

Common led off the third inning with an opposite field home run for the sixth run of the contest and in the bottom of the inning, the Lions got on the board, as Pitt-Greensburg held a 6-1 advantage after three innings of action.

The Bobcats remained in control of the game and added on to their lead with four runs in the fifth. Shaw led off the at-bat with his first career home run and later in the frame, Rainey blasted a bomb. Beasley and Dolan also had RBI base knocks sandwiched between the two long balls for Pitt-Greensburg.

Pitt-Greensburg added six runs in the sixth and added three more in the seventh and would take the opening game of the day, 19-6.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 16, Penn State Altoona 4

The Lions got on the scoreboard in their first at-bats on an RBI single from Catcher Cumming, but the Bobcats struck for four runs on five hits in the top of the second inning.

Parlak got the inning started with a leadoff double and Aul drew a walk to give the Bobcats runners on first and second. Hart then loaded the bases with a single and Zimmerman would plate two with a base knock down the right field line. After Beasley singled to load the bases once again, Dolan drove in a run on a fielders choice and Rainey plated the fourth run of the inning on a base hit to right field.

Parlak once again got things going in the third as he led off with a single and Common followed with a base hit through the right field, which allowed Parlak to move all the way to third. Aul stepped to the plate and smashed an RBI single to third base to put the Bobcats ahead 5-1.

Altoona got its second run of the game in the bottom of the inning, but the Bobcats once again had an answer in their next at-bat, as Reno smashed a long fly ball over the right field fence to give Pitt-Greensburg a 6-2 advantage.

Pitt-Greensburg made it three-straight innings with a run as it plated a run on two hits in the fifth. Common smashed a one-out single and Aul displayed a great eye at the plate, drawing a walk. With runners on first and second, Hart drove in Common to increase the Bobcat lead to 7-2 heading into the sixth frame.

The Bobcats once again put on an offensive display in the eighth inning. Hart began the inning with a single and Zimmerman reached on an error. Beasley put down a fantastic bunt and Dolan cleared the bases with his first career home run. Rainey then reached on an error and following a strikeout by Holland, Parlak and Common hit back-to-back home runs to force a pitching change from Altoona. After the pitching change, Aul singled and Hart cleared the bases with a two-run bomb as the Bobcats tallied nine runs in the eighth, including four home runs and would go on for a 16-4 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field Wednesday afternoon, playing host to Mt. Aloysius for a doubleheader. First pitch between the two teams is slated for 1 pm.
