@Pittgbgbaseball Takes Opening Game Of Doubleheader With La Roche

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team split a doubleheader with La Roche Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Park. Pitt-Greensburg took the opening game, 15-3, but La Roche earned a split with a 8-4 victory in the nightcap.

With the split, Pitt-Greensburg improves to 16-8 overall and 9-3 in conference play, while La Roche moves to 19-6-1 and 8-2 in the AMCC.

Pitt-Greensburg slugged three more home runs on the day, increasing the season total to 36, which currently leads the country. Tyler Holland blasted two home runs on the afternoon, while Mike Parlak clubbed his conference-best 11th long ball of the year.

Holland paced the Bobcats with four hits on the day, while Chris Common, Parlak, and Mike Dolan each chipped in with three base hits.

Game 1- La Roche 3, Pitt-Greensburg 15

The Bobcats tallied 15 runs on 11 hits and Andy Prentice tossed 4.1 innings and struck out four to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season. Matt Mish came on in relief on Prentice, and the sophomore hurler allowed just two hits in 2.2 innings.

La Roche jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Bobcats struck for four runs on three hits in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Common walked to begin the inning and both Dan Kiester and Derek Shaw reached to load the bases with one out. Pat Aul plated the first run with an RBI ground out and following a Dolan walk, Reno Rainey and Holland drilled back-to-back RBI singles to put the Bobcats ahead 4-1.

The Redhawks managed their second run of the game in the third, but Pitt-Greensburg added three additional runs in the fourth. Parlak scored Dolan on a sacrifice fly and Common doubled home two runs as Pitt-Greensburg extended its lead to 7-2 after four innings of action.

Holland drilled a home run in both the fifth and sixth inning as Pitt-Greensburg opened with a 15-3 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

Game 2- La Roche 8, Pitt-Greensburg 4

Just like the start of the opening game of the doubleheader, La Roche jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs in the second and added a run in the third for a 3-0 advantage heading into the home half of the third.

Zimmerman got things going in the third with a leadoff triple and came around to score on an RBI groundout from Kiester as Pitt-Greensburg cut the deficit to 3-1 after three innings of action.

Elmo Trickett led off the fourth with a solo home run for the Redhawks, but the Bobcats would tie the game at four with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Holland led off with a single and Parlak followed with a two-run smash for his 11th of the year. Later in the inning, Zimmerman collected his first RBI of the day to tie the game at four, as he scored Common with a single to left field.

Brandon Hoener was brought on in the fifth and after sending down the Redhawks 1-2-3, Rainey led off the bottom of the inning with a double, but the Bobcats could not take advantage of the runner in scoring position as the game remained tied at four with four innings left to play.

Hoener once again sent La Roche down in order to begin the sixth and in the bottom of the inning, Hart led off with a single and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Zimmerman. Kiester struck out, but reached on a throwing error, which also advanced Hart to third base. La Roche called to the bullpen and brought on the hard throwing Tre Thomas. Thomas managed to escape the inning by getting Aul and Dolan to record the final two outs of the inning.

The score remained tied at four with two innings left, but La Roche struck for three runs on four hits in the eighth and added a run in the ninth and would hold on for an 8-4 win.

The Bobcats return to the field tomorrow, when they travel to Waynesburg for a single nine inning contest slated for a 3 pm first pitch.
