@Pittgbg Sets Single-Game record For Walks and Season Record For Home Runs In Sweep Of D'Youville

LEWISTON, N.Y.- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team (19-10, 12-4 AMCC)  drew a school-record 14 walks in a doubleheader sweep of D'Youville (4-21, 1-14 AMCC) Friday afternoon at Bobo Field.

Pitt-Greensburg opened the day, winning game one 24-18, and completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in game two. The two teams put on an offensive display in the first game of the afternoon, combining for 42 runs, 34 hits, and 14 walks, including a school-record 14 for Pitt-Greensburg.

In the nightcap, the Bobcats tallied five runs on 14 hits and got a second straight-complete game pitching performance from sophomore Matt Mish. Mish scattered just seven hits over nine strong innings and struck out a career-high eight batters for his third win of the season.

At the plate, Pitt-Greensburg batted .405 as a team, collecting 32 hits and belting out four home runs to bring the season total to 40, which breaks the school record of 37 (2012). Mike Dolan, Tyler Holland, Reno Rainey, and Chris Common all went deep for the Bobcats. Dolan led the way at the plate with seven hits on the day, while Holland and Rainey each recorded five. Zack Zimmerman also put together a solid effort, going 4-for-9 with two runs and two RBI, while Common, Mike Parlak, and Patrick Aul each tallied three base hits.

Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 24, D'Youville 18

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Holland, but D'Youville recorded eight runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-2 lead after one inning of action.

Dolan went deep in the second, belting a two-run bomb, but the Spartans also added two in the bottom of the inning.

The two teams combined for 12 runs in the third inning with Pitt-Greensburg recording seven runs in the top and the Spartans tallying five in the home-half, as the Spartans continued to lead 15-11 with four innings left.

Dolan drove in two runs in the fourth, but the Spartans answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but that was the last time they would score a run in the game.

Pitt-Greensburg continued its comeback climb recording 11-runs over the final two innings as it came all the way back to win 24-18. The Bobcats put up seven runs in the sixth and four in the final frame. Bill Minnick was credited with his first win of the season, as he did not allow a run over the final three innings and gave up just four hits.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 5, D'Youville 1

D'Youville tallied a run in the second but that was the lone lead of the game for the Spartans. The Bobcats jumped in front with three runs in the top of the third. Two runs came as a result of a Rainey home run and Common tripled home Holland for the third run of the inning.

Holland collected his second RBI in the fifth for the fourth run of the game for the Bobcats and Dolan added insurance in the ninth, as he scored Dan Kiester on a sacrifice fly.

Mish did not allow a run after the second inning and sent the Bobcats to a 5-1 victory and a sweep of the Spartans.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field Monday, when they take on cross-town foe St. Vincent for a non-conference doubleheader slated for a 2 pm start.
