@Pittgbgbaseball Ties School Record For Wins In A Season With Victory At Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. (May 5) - The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team tied a school record for wins in a season, taking the first of two games at Bethany College Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats rallied for a 12-10 comeback victory in the opening game of the day to tie the school record, but dropped a 13-4 decision to the Bison in the second game of the twin bill.

GAME 1 Pitt-Greensburg 12, Bethany 10

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats would get on the board in their first at bats with two runs in the first inning. Chris Common smacked a one out single and advanced to third on a double down the right field line by Tyler Holland. Following a strikeout for the second out, Mike Parlak singled to left field which brought home Common and Holland would come around to score as Parlak advanced to second on an error by the Bison. 

Bethany added a run in the bottom of the inning, but Zimmerman's sacrifice fly in the second scored Mike Spadafore to push the Bobcat lead to 3-1. 

The Bison notched a run in both the second and third to tie the game at three, but the Bobcats once again jumped back into the lead with a three-run fourth inning. 
Bethany recorded two tallies in the fourth and five in the seventh to hold a 10-6 lead heading into the top of the seventh. 

Down to their final three out of the inning, Holland singled to begin the seventh and Rainey drew a four-pitch walk to put runners on first and second. Parlak then scored Holland and Pat Aul drew a walk to load the bases. Spadafore and Kiester both were hit-by-pitch to cut the defecit to 10-9, but the Bobcats tied the game at 10 on

Zimmerman's RBI single which scored Ben Green. Common put the Bobcats in the second driving in two and in the bottom of the seventh, Andy Prentice sent down the Bison and gave Pitt-Greensburg the 12-10 win. 

GAME 2: Pitt-Greensburg 4 Bethany 13

HOW IT HAPPENED

Neither team scored a run in the first, but the Bobcats would take the lead in the second. Parlak drove in Rainey for the first run of the contest, as he plated the run with an RBI groundout, and Ian Hart added a second run with a run-scoring single that brought home Mike Dolan

The lead would not last long as Bethany tallied seven runs in the bottom of the inning and was at it again with three runs in the fourth. 

In the fifth inning, the Bobcats got their offense going once again and two additional runs crossed home plate. Derek Shaw and Zimmerman drew back-to-back walks to begin the inning and Shaw came around to score on a base knock from Common. Holland followed with an RBI base hit that scored Zimmerman. 

Bethany would put up a three-spot the sixth and salvage a split of the doubleheader, with a 13-4 victory in game two. 

UP NEXT:
Pitt-Greensburg returns to the diamond Thursday as it enters the AMCC Tournament as the #2 seed. The Bobcats will face the #3 seed Penn State Behrend at 1 pm.
