Volleyball Falls In Four Sets To Westminster

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team lost in four sets, 3-1 to visiting Westminster in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night inside Chambers Hall.

Pitt-Greensburg and Westminster split the opening two sets, but it was Westminster that won the third and fourth sets to go on for the 3-1 victory. Pitt-Greensburg dominated the second set to claim a 25-18 victory.

The Bobcats put forth arguably their best performance of the season, totaling 28 kills on 89 attacks for a season-best .112 attack percentage. Despite coming up short in the fourth set, Pitt-Greensburg tallied 13 kills on 32 swing for an impressive .281 hitting percentag, which was their best attack percentage of any set played in 2018.

Marissa Leonard led the way for the Bobcats with nine kills, while Sabre Turner added six, and Mackenzie Schropp chipped in with five.

Westminster took the opening set 25-8, but the Bobcats came out firing in set two. After trying the set at four on an attack error by the Titans, Pitt-Greensburg reeled off nine-straight points to take a 13-4 advantage. Later in the set, Schropp's kill extended the Bobcat lead to eight (19-11) and Pitt-Greensburg would go on to win 25-19 and even the match at one.

The Titans opened up an early 11-3 advantage in the third stanza and would record a 25-10 victory to go up 2-1.

Despite an early 12-6 deficit in the fourth set, the Bobcats would not go down quietly and continued to chip away at the score. Pitt-Greensburg would get within one, 22-21 on a kill by Leonard, before Westminster called timeout. After the timeout, the Titans reeled off three-straight points and would hang on for the 25-21 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court tomorrow evening (Sept. 26) when it opens its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference scheduled at Franciscan. Wednesday's match is set for 7 pm.
