Volleyball Falls In Straight-Sets To Medaille In AMCC Home Opener

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team (0-17, 0-2 AMCC) dropped its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference home opener to Medaille (4-12, 2-2 AMCC), 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall. 

Pitt-Greensburg totaled 22 kills on 89 swing for a .034 attack percentage, while Medaille tallied 35 kills on 91 swings for a .264 hitting percentage. 

The Bobcats put together their best offensive performance in the second set, recording 10 kills on 41 attacks for a .073 hitting percentage. Sabre Turner paced the Bobcats offensively with seven kills, followed by six from Marisssa Leonard, and four by Mackenzie Schropp

Defensively, Pitt-Greensburg put together one of its best performances this season, totaling a season-high seven blocks, four of which were solo and six block assists. Alexis Ray led the block party with four swats, followed by two each from Schropp and Turner. Emma Dongilli aided Pitt-Greensburg with 19 assists and Kassi Niver added a team-high 15 digs. 

Medaille jumped out to a quick 6-2 advantage before the Bobcats put together a charge and would lead 9-5 on a kill by Ray. Pitt-Greensburg continued to hold onto the lead, but the Mavericks would charge all the way back and take an 18-17 lead, before the Bobcats called timeout. 

The Mavericks continued its run and took a 23-18 lead and an attack error put the Mavericks within one point from winning the opening game. 

Despite being down to game-point, Pitt-Greensburg reeled off four-straight points to get within 24-22, before Medaille called timeout. Following the timeout, Turner's kill cut the deficit to one. Despite the momentum from the Bobcats, Medaille would take the next point and go on for the 25-23 victory. 

In the second game of the day, Medaille jumped out to an early advantage, before Pitt-Greensburg mounted a run and got within two, 10-8 on a kill by Leonard. Following the Leonard kill, the Mavericks rolled off four-straight points to take control of set. Medaille would go on for a 25-13 victory in set two, to take a 2-0 lead. 

Pitt-Greensburg trailed 3-2 early in the third game, but Medaille scored six-straight points to jump to a 9-2 lead before Pitt-Greensburg called timeout. The Bobcats regained some momentum and back-to-back kills by Schropp and Leonard cut the Medaille lead to five (13-8), before the Mavericks called timeout to stop the Bobcat momentum. After the timeout, Medaille regrouped and scored five-straight points and would go on for a 25-10 win in game three. 

The Bobcats return to the court Tuesday evening, playing host to la Roche at 8 pm.
