Big First Half Propels Medaille Past Men's Basketball

GREENSBURG- Medaille (7-8, 5-3 AMCC) shot 53% in the first half and hit seven three-pointers en route to an 84-72 victory over the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (4-10, 1-6 AMCC) Saturday afternoon, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup inside Chambers Hall.

The Mavericks caught fire to open the game in the first half, connecting on 19-of-36 attempts from the field for 53% and made 7-of-10 from behind the three-point arc, which propelled Medaille to a 48-35 lead at halftime.

Pitt-Greensburg continued to chip away at the deficit and would get within one point, 61-60 on two free-throws by Matt Johnson with 10:01 remaining in the contest, but following the free-throw makes, the Mavericks reeled off 10-straight points to put the game away.

JoJo France came off the bench for Pitt-Greensburg and led the way with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, which included hitting 4-of-5 at the charity stripe. Kyle Bondi and Cam Seigfreid were also in double-figures for the Bobcats, tallying 12 and 10 points respectively. Cody Spaid added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Nate Burt added seven points off the bench on 3-of-3 from the floor, which included an empathic dunk in the second half that caused quite a stir in the crowd.

The Bobcats shot 43.1% for the contest, hitting 15-of-36 in the first half for 42% and 13-of-29 for 45% after halftime, but struggled from behind the three-point for much of the afternoon, making just three of its 20 attempts. After hitting just 3-of-8 attempts in the first 20 minutes, Pitt-Greensburg made all 10 of its shots from the charity stripe in the second half.

Pitt-Greensburg generated the majority of its points in close proximity to the basket, tallying 46 points in the paint, while defensively they held the Mavericks to just 28 points inside the painted area.

Meghale Ford led four players in double-figures for Medaille with a game-high 20 points and six assists.

The Bobcats look to erase a four-game losing streak when they play host to Mt. Aloysius, Wednesday night at 8 pm.
