Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa- The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team opened up its 2019-20 campaign on Tuesday (Nov. 12) evening with a hard fought, 74-67, loss to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, who move to 2-0 on the season. In a newly renovated Salvitti Family Gymnasium the Bobcats lead at the half, before ultimately dropping the contest that had 11 lead changes.

JoJo France highlighted the Bobcats. He led all scorers with 18 points, twelve of which coming from behind the arc. Matt Johnson and Torian Jenkins each netted double figures as well, with 15 and 13 respectively.

Brady Kingston scored the first basket of the season and the game for the Bobcats on a baseline layup. The Presidents took over for the next eight-plus minutes to lead 21-9 half way through the first half.

Pitt-Greensburg stormed back, with a 16-0 run over the next five minutes. Cam Seigfreid started the run with a free throw and France capped it off with a jumper at the 4:38 mark. Matt Johnson (6) and Torian Jenkins (5) were the leading scorers over the run. The Bobcats outscored W&J 27-13, in the latter half of the first frame to take the lead into the locker-room, 36-34.

The Blue and Gold earned their largest lead of the second half at 17:22 on a France three pointer. The teams then traded baskets until about the twelve-minute mark. At that point W&J took the lead, 52-50, and never gave it up. Greensburg battled down the stretch, however couldn't get closer than six points in the final four minutes.

A look at the game by the numbers. The Bobcats shot 41.7% (25 for 60) from the field and 27.3% (6 for 22) from three-point land. Pitt-Greensburg corralled 31 rebounds, Matt Johnson led the category individually with seven. Kingston had four of the 12 assists and the seven-footer Nate Burt blocked four W&J shots to lead the team in those categories.

The Bobcats will go across town to Saint Vincent College for their next matchup on Saturday (Nov. 16) before the home opener on November 23 versus the Bethany Bison. Meanwhile, the Presidents venture to New York to compete in the Buffalo State Coles Classic this weekend.
