Men’s Basketball Downs Franciscan to Open AMCC Play

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team opened up their 2019-20 AMCC slate with an 85-68 victory over Franciscan University Tuesday (Nov. 26) evening. The Bobcats improve to 3-1, while the Barons drop to 1-3.

Four Bobcats tallied double figures on the evening. Jojo France led the way with 28, knocking down five three pointers and made 9-of-10 at the free throw line. Cam Seigfreid and Matt Johnson netted 17 and 14, respectively, while Nate Burt added 10 to round out the double-digit scorers for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats got out ahead 5-0 two minutes into the game via a Brady Kingston jumper and France three pointer. The Barons traded baskets for a couple minutes after that. Then, four straight points got UPG out in front by seven (21-14) at the 10:58 mark in the first half.

Franciscan punched back by going on a 9-0 run over the next 1:37 to take their first lead of the game at 23-21. The Barons got ahead by 4 points (32-28), their largest of the half, at 6:25 left in the first period.

Pitt-Greensburg put a screeching halt to the scoring by Franciscan, limiting them to just 1 point in the final 6:25 of the half. Pitt-Greensburg ended the frame with a 15-1 scoring run to take the halftime lead, 43-33. Over the six-minute process of taking back and extending the lead, Matt Johnson scored eight points and France had five. France's five points during the run included a three pointer right at the halftime buzzer.

Siegfried came out of the locker room and drained a three pointer to continue the momentum for the Bobcats. Pitt-Greensburg stayed ahead by double-digits for the large part of the second half. It was a single-digit advantage for just over three minutes, from 12:33 to 9:09. During that time the Barons got it as close as eight points, but no closer.

UPG got its lead up to as high as 19 multiple times in the second half. The first was a Siegfried three at the 3:18 mark. France got it back to 19 with a layup at 2:51, that began his stretch of scoring the last six points for the Bobcats.

Cody Spaid came down with 10 of the 37 Bobcat rebounds to lead all players. Brady Kingston dished out 4 assists to lead the game in the statistic.

Pitt-Greensburg will down some turkey and then return to Chamber Hall on Saturday (Nov. 30) playing host to Penn State Behrend. Tip off between the Bobcats and Lions is slated for 2 pm.
